In the module Data Analysis of the course Quantitative Methods for Decision Making, students have learned the basic linear regression models and techniques such as ordinary least squares and instrumental variables estimation. In the STATA course, students get examples of real data and actual research questions that can be analyzed using the tools they have learned in the Data Analysis Module. Using the software package STATA, they get hands on experience in estimation and testing to investigate, for example, the effect of the characteristics of TV commercials for how well people recall the product that is advertised, variation in house prices as a consequence of differences in house characteristics, or the causal effect of education on wages. STATA is a general-purpose statistical software package developed by StataCorp that provides all that you need for your data science: data manipulation, visualization, statistics, and automated reporting. It is used by researchers in many fields, including economics, business administration, biomedicine, epidemiology, sociology and science.
